Areas of specialisation

Every translation calls for a different approach. Advertising texts often hinge on persuasive language and clever word play, whereas handbooks and operating instructions need pinpoint accuracy. Similarly, while film scripts require a firm command of the feel and humour of the dialogue, financial reports demand an in-depth knowledge of the terminology in question.

The following list contains some of the areas in which I work.

Advertising Financial translations Market research
Business correspondence
Company newsletters
Company presentations/websites
Copywriting
Environmental science
Film scripts and treatments
Handbooks
Law (general)
Literature
Marketing
Medical (general)
Slogans
Spoken texts
Tourism

Of course, this is just a sample – please ask if you are unsure.

However …

As well as translations that do not correspond to my language pairings, I generally turn down texts that require a specific technical background, such as engineering, chemistry or physics. I do not accept translations that would require a legal academic background, although I am happy to take on general contracts, terms and conditions and legal correspondence.

Similarly, although I translate general medical brochures and newsletters, particularly in the field of homeopathic medicine and healthcare, I am not qualified to take on medical translations of a technical nature. If I feel that I am not the right translator for the job, I will say so straight away – and would be happy to point you in the right direction if I can.
